Today at CCW Vegas, Five9 announced the next generation of agentic self-service: platform-native Five9 Voice AI agents, powered by Five9’s new Genius AI execution layer and managed in a unified admin console for both human and AI agents.
The announcement represents a fundamental shift from Five9’s prior IVA and Hybrid AI agents, moving from rigid pre-built conversation flows to natural language design that adapts to the way humans actually talk.
Purpose-built on an agentic architecture to handle more complex customer interactions, Five9 Voice AI agents are low-latency, context-aware, and can handle multi-turn, multi-topic conversations with continuity (no more long, awkward pauses while customers wait for the AI agent to respond.)
Interruption handling, live intent tracking, and noise management keep the conversation clear and human-like. Seamless warm handoffs give human agents complete conversational context before transferring the call, eliminating customer repetition.
Built-in customizable guardrails, including LLM Blinding that redacts PII before the model ever sees it, provide enterprise-grade security and trust.
Five9’s Voice AI agents are designed to work alongside the full Five9 Virtual Contact Center platform, seamlessly sharing data, knowledge, and orchestration with your existing tech stack.
Five9’s Agentic Architecture for Voice AI
Five9’s AI agents are powered by three main components: agentic voice switch, multi-agent orchestrator, and agentic tool server.
Agentic Voice Switch, which Five9 CTO and Head of AI Jonathan Rosenberg describes as “the beating heart of our AI agent,” is a proprietary three-model architecture built in-house for low latency and scalability. ASR is powered by Deepgram, TTS by ElevenLabs, and the LLM by OpenAI. Unlike competitors, Five9’s agentic voice switch layer unifies call processing and the AI voice engine inside a single component.
Combined with Five9’s existing strong, globally interconnected telco with direct, highly managed connections, Five9 AI Agents offer high-level reliability alongside low latency.
Multi-agent orchestration is all about guardrails and controls. Natural language guardrail instructions don’t require custom code or extensive model retraining, LLM blinding hides sensitive information, and transfer guardrails ensure AI agents only escalate calls to human agents when they’ve completed their assigned objectives.
Five9’s tool component combines non-deterministic LLMs with deterministic tools for data processing, API integration and testing, drag-and-drop multi-step flows, error handling, and computation.
The big advantage – and differentiator – here is that Five9 AI agents leverage the full Five9 platform.
Five9's VCC Variable System powers seamless data sharing across the platform, while the Five9 Global Telco Network provides proven high-quality global connectivity, voice analytics, and reliability. Five9 WFA allows AI agents to handle more complex workflows, while unified Knowledge and RAG provides a single source of trust for all AI.
What Five9 AI Agents Means For CX
Unlike AI agents of the past, Five9's Voice AI agents are built around containment by resolution, not containment by deflection. The main strategic bet here is platform-native: rather than ship (yet another) standalone voice bot, Five9 is wiring agents into its existing systems, keeping WFM, omnichannel, reporting, telco, and compliance in one place.
Currently, Five9 sits third in the CCaaS market behind NiCE and Genesys. AI is Five9’s lever to close that gap, and it already seems to be working: 2025 enterprise AI revenue grew 50% year over year, now crossing $100M in ARR.
Early customer results from Five9 Voice AI agents are promising: PODS achieved a 44% containment rate and expects AI to handle over 100,000 calls by the end of the year.
“Five9 solved critical challenges around noise handling, turn detection, and hallucination prevention, enabling reliable, context-aware conversations at scale,. Just as importantly, they were a true partner in helping us move from concept to production.”

Five9 Voice AI Agents will be in controlled availability on June 30th.
